Village Life…

by admin on Feb.13, 2010, under Blog

The Olympics are everything I thought they would be and more. It’s an unbelievable and overwhelming feeling coming into the village for the first time. Flags drape from every balcony, and there is a sea of blue jacket officials more than happy to help. The Olympic spirit is everywhere.

It’s been a very busy couple of days since Katya and I arrived late on the 9th. We were too excited to sleep so started to explore the amazing facilities the village has to offer, starting with the food court that is open 24 hours a day and serves cuisines from all over the world. It even has a McDonalds.

After a good night sleep we were taken to the uniform distribution centre in Richmond. I received two enormous suitcases of clothes for every occasion. I’ve never been so proud to put on an Australian uniform. The uniform represents everything I have achieved to get to this point, and it’s an incredible feeling knowing its only an elite few that get to wear it.

In daylight we could see the Boxing Kangeroo that has caused so much controversy of late. The enormous flag is the first thing you see when you walk into the village. The controversy has proven to be of value though increasing the value of our boxing Kangeroo pins, which are traded between teams.

I checked out the gym during my first day, after all I am here to compete. The shoulder is coming along faster than I could have ever hoped for, making gains every day. The gym is all decked out with new equipment and open 24 hours a day; the dumbbells are only just heavy enough though. It’s a really cool vibe in the gym, knowing that these are the best athletes in the world and they are all striving for Olympic Gold.

Today was another busy day. Press conference this morning and our flag rasing and Welcoming Ceremony’s at night. We were officially welcomed as the 2010 Australian Olympic Team and given plaques for our achievement. On the way to the welcoming ceremony the Tug Boats took a small detour to pass by some Australian fans, I even had my own sign “Scott kneller he’s our fella”
